Best. Weekend. Ever.

Sorry everyone that its been so long since I have blogged! I will explain more about that later, but first I have to tell you all about my wonderful weekend. It was extra special considering it will more than likely be one of the last few opportunitites I have to enjoy the unique Tennessee/Georgia experiences, and I am so happy I took advantage.

First, it was Kara's birthday weekend so I drove down to Chattanooga to celebrate with her and join in her special request to go to Ruby Falls!  For those who don't know anything about it, Ruby Falls is the largest underground waterfall in America (1,120 ft. under the earth to be exact!) located under Lookout Mountain. Lookout Mountain Cave was known by Native Americans and locals for years, but was closed off in 1905 after a railroad was built through the mountain. In 1928 Leo Lambert discovered the waterfall by accident when he was trying to build an elevator down to the cave for tourists to view. During digging and drilling, the crew felt a gush of air and followed a small passage way to the opening where the waterfall was - a journey that took 17 hours! Needless to say, the Cave became the secondary attraction and the waterfall quickly became popular. Our hysterical guide explained that only in 1970 was an alternate exit besides the elevator made, after a group of tourists was trapped overnight when the elevator broke. Of course, the next morning after given breakfast they were still taken to the gift shop and given life long passes to come back anytime they wished- none have been redeemed to this day :)   Besides the slightly cheesy music and light show, it was absolutely breathtaking and Kara and I felt pretty tall for the first time in our lives!

I also had the chance to meet Leland, Jodi, Olivia, and Reese in Atlanta to go to the Georgia Aquarium! It was a last minute decision, but being closer while being in Chattanooga made it a perfect opportunity. I was so excited since its something that I have wanted to do forever! It is the only aquarium with 4 whale sharks, and 2 beluga whales on exhibit.... talk about awe-inspiring! God's creation is just so amazing and seeing these creatures close up is definitely something I will never forget. And the nieces did extremely well, despite the fact we all almost melted to death waiting outside in line in the sweltering Atlanta heat!! But very worth it, and perhaps even more so sometime when its a little less busy from the summer weekend rush ;) All in all, a very tough weekend to beat.
